Dont you think he was a reflection of the music scene at the time? Thats mostly been the pattern all along, country in the early 70's, disco in the late 70's etc. etc. Regardless of how people think about Brent no one can argue that he didnt push Jerry to new highs from the uninspired playing that started in 1978.

First of all if there's anything I know that can't be argued about Deadheads is when it comes to the band there's ALWAYS something that can be argued. I know that Jerry and the band wanted synthesizer and Jerry dug what Brent was playing but I'd be more inclined to say a different direction than new heights. Out of the keyboard players I saw the look and demeanor of Jerry looked more inspired playing with Hornsby.
